I want to be honest. Everything was going fantastic (we had dinner in the restaurant the night before and it was nice) until we had the breakfast. It was awful. Coffee was horrible from the machine and the English breakfast was the worst I have ever had in a hotel. I will stay again in the hotel but I will have breakfast somewhere else.

The location was ideal for our stay, The town centre was a short walk through a beautiful park 2 mins from the accommodation and 10 minute walk from the venue we were attending on the second day, also a very friendly local shop on the corner as it was self catering. The Kitchen was well equipped and the shower was fantastic

We visited Sunderland to attend a Bruce Springsteen concert, Decided to stay the day before as well as the night after, Very mixed thoughts on our stay,The shopping centre was nice and friendly. Going out for tea was another matter! Whilst having a drink before tea in a town centre bar my Daughter was verbally abused by a local man which became problematic. However other venues were much nicer.After the concert we walked through the town and stopped for a drink which was very relaxed. You need to book well in advance if you want to watch the Black Cats at the stadium of light! There is a nice railway connection to nearby Seaham if you want to visit. Sunderland is a lovely city with lots of things to see and do. The coast here is beautiful with interesting beaches and walks. The people we spoke to were welcoming and friendly everywhere we went. Food was great, reasonable prices and delicious. Will definitely go back to see more of this lovely part of the country.PartridgeUnited Kingdom

The hotel also has its own tea room, the cakes looked out of this world. We stayed for a evening meal package with breakfast the following morning. Could not fault the service the level of food was amazing. They produce their own Gin on site, I myself am not a Gin drinker but enjoyed the lemon Gin. The stay was excellent value for money would definitely stay again. The local bars was very welcoming also.

Checked in 1 hour early we upgraded to a superior sea view room, although the furniture was a bit tired and the floor very creeky we were happy with our room. The breakfast was plentiful, hot and tasty we noticed when items were low it was replenished quickly. If we are in Sunderland again The Grand Hotel is definitely a hotel we would look at returning to.

The cottage was very nice, clean and comfortable.Very relaxing. meeting up after such a long time it was enjoyable sitting in the comfort of a lounge and catching up rather than in a hotel room or a cafe. Very quiet at night.
